Today's Inspiration

August 9, 2010
My God, Harry, what a pusher! He tries to impress Don into taking a meeting during his precious Anna Draper time. This meeting is with famous Bill Asher at the famous Hollywood Brown Derby. As Harry says, near wistfully, “He’ll probably try to cast you.”
This particular Brown Derby was the scene of many television and film wheelings and dealings, since it was so close to several movie studios nearby. Lucille Ball has lunch there with Ethel and Fred on an episode of I Love Lucy, and was a frequent patron in non-television life. Most of the original restaurant was destroyed due to a 1987 fire.
The man Harry wants Don to meet with, Bill Asher, was the primary director of I Love Lucy episodes, and the producer/director of Bewitched (he also married the star, Elizabeth Montgomery). Bewitched began in 1964 and was immediately popular, so this really would have been an excellent get for SDCP. Oh, well.
